Melbourne Decks Advanced PVC Decking is designed for long-lasting outdoor performance with minimal maintenance. Correct cleaning, care and installation will help maintain the appearance and performance of your decking for many years.
For normal maintenance
-
Sweep the deck regularly to remove leaves, dirt and debris.
-
Wash the surface using clean water and a soft-bristle brush.
-
For general dirt, use warm water with a mild household detergent.
-
Rinse thoroughly with clean water after cleaning.
-
Clean spills as soon as practical to help prevent staining.
Regular cleaning is particularly important around pool areas, outdoor kitchens and covered alfresco areas where dirt, grease or residue may build up.
Food, Oil & Grease
Clean food, cooking oil, grease and BBQ spills as soon as possible.
Use:
-
Warm water
-
Mild detergent
-
Soft cloth or soft-bristle brush
Avoid allowing oils or strongly coloured substances to remain on the surface for extended periods.
BBQ & Outdoor Cooking Areas
When using a BBQ, pizza oven, fire pit or other heat-producing appliance near the decking:
-
Always follow the appliance manufacturer's required clearances.
-
Use an appropriate non-combustible protective surface where required.
-
Do not place hot cookware, charcoal, embers or other heated objects directly onto the decking.
-
Protect the deck from grease and cooking oil.
Decking products are not designed to act as a heat shield or non-combustible base for appliances.
Furniture & Heavy Objects
Use protective pads beneath outdoor furniture where practical.
Do not drag heavy furniture, planters, appliances or sharp objects across the decking surface, as this may cause scratching or surface damage.
Lift and reposition heavy items instead.
Pressure Cleaning
If pressure cleaning is required, use a low-pressure setting and maintain a safe distance from the decking surface.
Do not direct concentrated high-pressure water at one point for an extended period.
Test an inconspicuous area first.
Chemicals
Do not use aggressive chemicals or solvents unless specifically approved for use on PVC/ASA decking.
Avoid:
-
Acetone
-
Paint thinners
-
Petroleum-based solvents
-
Strong acids
-
Strong alkaline cleaners
-
Abrasive cleaning compounds
If you are unsure whether a cleaning product is suitable, contact Melbourne Decks before using it.
Scratches & Surface Marks
Normal outdoor use may result in minor surface marks over time.
To reduce scratching:
-
Keep the deck free from sand and abrasive debris.
-
Use furniture protection pads.
-
Avoid dragging heavy objects.
-
Take additional care when moving metal furniture or equipment.
Drainage & Ventilation
Decks should be installed with appropriate drainage and ventilation.
Do not permanently block drainage points or ventilation around the subfloor.
Water should be able to drain freely away from the decking and supporting structure.
Building or Renovation Work
Protect installed decking during nearby construction.
Cement, render, paint, adhesives, metal filings and other building materials should not be allowed to dry or remain on the decking surface.
Cover the decking appropriately before undertaking construction work nearby.
